About
Charles R Ortloff
With multiple academic degrees in mechanical and aeronautical engineering obtained in early stages of life, this led to fifty years of R&D mechanical engineering and fluid dynamics research experience for major US and foreign firms together with thirty-five years of experience in classified work for the US military on advanced aerodynamics studies. Early in my career, I became interested in exploring the hydraulic engineering accomplishments of ancient water engineers using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis methods to examine their water structures- mainly canals, aqueducts and urban and agricultural water distribution systems at many UNESCO World Heritage sites in ancient South America, Asia, Europe and the Middle East. This parallel career path now has forty-five years of studies producing four books (on Amazon), many journal publications, several PBS NOVA documentaries and many conference presentations highlighting a new field in archaeology characterized by analyzing ancient water engineering technologies with modern analysis methods termed “Paleohydraulics.” Interested in foreign travel with sixty-five countries visited so far to experience (and investigate) both their ancient water structures together with present-day societies to learn their approach to life.
