Data Analyst

Every manuscript that moves through BRJ leaves a data trail: submission and review timelines, invoicing, production milestones, launch readership and citations. We need those signals turned into clear, trustworthy reporting that editors and management act on weekly.

You will work with the engineering team on clean extracts from our PostgreSQL systems and own the analysis layer: dashboards, cohort views of the publishing pipeline, and ad-hoc deep dives (why review times slipped, which subject areas grow, where authors drop out of the funnel).

• Build and maintain reporting on the publishing pipeline: submission volumes, review turnaround, acceptance-to-launch times and payment cycles.
• Analyse readership and citation performance across journals, issues and subject areas.
• Design metrics with editors, then automate them — repeatable queries and dashboards over one-off spreadsheets.
• Present findings in crisp written summaries with clear recommendations.
• Guard data quality: spot gaps and inconsistencies in operational data and push fixes upstream.

• 2+ years in a data-analysis role with strong SQL (we are a PostgreSQL shop).
• Fluency in a BI/visualization tool (Metabase, Looker Studio, Power BI or similar).
• Spreadsheet mastery and comfort with statistics fundamentals (distributions, cohorts, significance).
• The writing skills to make a number persuasive to a non-technical editor.

• Python or R for deeper analysis.
• Experience with publishing, media or subscription-funnel analytics.
